Radio & Television STUDIO 99

Radio Studio 99 was founded in December 1991, a few months before the war broke out, as the firs independent electronic media in Sarajevo, and in Bosnia-Herzegovina as a whole. The station played extremely significant role in wartime Sarajevo. Through the most accessible media (due to siege and shelling, radio was a primary mean to get information), citizens of Sarajevo were informed about what was happening in their town and the county. The programme has been permanently broadcast all through the war. Thanks to its independent editorial policy and critical approach towards the political establishment, the station became one of the most influential media. The programme is aimed to promote the values of a democratic society and to oppose the division of Bosnia-Herzegovina in ethnic units by offering its audience prospective of multi-cultural and multi-ethnic life. A number of free intellectuals gathered around the station and organised themselves within an organisation called "Circle 99". With their as well abroad known authority, they give additional credibility to Studio 99. In the beginning of 1995, with the help from UNESCO, Studio 99 started TV broadcast. TV equipment was afterwards set on fire and the broadcast was prevented. Fortunately, due to urgent help from the donor, TV Studio 99 quickly resumed its broadcast. After the war was finished, the station started changing its programme scheme an adapting it to another issues. At present, Studio 99 has a few big and important projects:
1. Studio 99 started developing of the correspondents network beyond the entity boarders in Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as beyond the borders of new-created states in ex-Yugoslavia region. The station has regular reports from the spot from Republika Srpska (correspondent from Banja Luka), so called Herceg-Bosna (phono service of the Agency STINA), Croatia (correspondent from Zagreb and phono service of STINA) and FR Yugoslavia (correspondent from Belgrade).
2. The second project is related to development of cultural and education programme, i. e. more hours devoted to it, as well as more diversified and better quality of broadcasts. This is basically done in two ways: using the video fond of broadcasts from foreign stations provided by Soros Media centre and UNESCO, and through development of own production in this field.
3. The third is broadening of the coverage territory. With new equipment, Studio 99 will soon be able to reach 130km circle around Sarajevo. People from Studio 99 hope that they will become more attractive for companies that would like to have advertisements. This is especially referring to foreign companies that already have or plan to have some business in Bosnia-Herzegovina. They would very much appreciate any kind of support in this field.
