Biweekly NOVI PRELOMThe paper was started in 1992 under the name Prelom. The
founder was Liberal party, but Preloms editorial policy was
going beyond the partys political programme. It was aimed
to try to make an impact on public opinion regarding acceptance
of some basic civilisation values: development of democracy,
creation of civil society, equal rights and decent life of all
citizens regardless to which ethnic and religious group they
belong to. On the other hand it was strongly critical towards war
and nationalist policy of the ruling Serbian Democratic Party.
Prelom was the only media on the territory under Bosnian Serb
control which was openly dealing with all the horror of
"ethnic cleansing", especially in Banja Luka area.
Because of such position, people working for the paper were under
constant pressures and open threats, including those for their
lives. Due to forced mobilisation of editors and journalists on
one hand, and to complete lack of finances to continue on the
other, the paper stopped being issued in 1993. Immediately after
Dayton Accord was signed, the paper was re-started under the name
Novi (New) Prelom. The values its editorial policy was standing
for remained the same. In the end of 1996, the media house -
Media Centre Prelom - was established and the paper was also
formally independent from any party policy. The main projects and
problems of Media Centre Prelom in this year are the following: Because of its open critics of the political establishment in Republika Srpska, Novi Prelom is under constant pressure, nowadays mostly economic ones. Due to extremely poor conditions people are living in it can not expect that some higher circulation could be sold. As there is no real market economy, the paper can not count on incomes from advertisements. Because of all these circumstances, biweekly Novi Prelom and the radio station Prelom can hardly survive on the media scene without foreign donations. Address: Cara Lazara 6, 78 000 Banja Luka |
