Cooperation with ELECTRA - Women's Art Center
in development of alternative video center

In ideologycal assumptions and programme orientation of ELECTRA WOMEN’S ART CENTRE and ELECTRA VIDEO CENTER arkzin has recognised simmilarites with itis own position and interests. Arkzin d.o.o. is from the beginning planned as multimedia project (see pict 1), place where different smaller cultural and media projects can be developed, and also place where young people can learn different skills. So, after establishing newspaper, and now also InterNet site, next step is establishing of our video production. Basic idea is to cover, now on video, similar subjects as we do in the newspaper. It means on the first place work of different NGO's and civic groups, youth subcultur, political events... The idea is also to bring together young artists and activists (what is not the case yet). Because of all the problems in social and political as well as economycal spheres, and trying to avoid dispersion of money, equipment and personell, we have decided to cooperate on the programme of establishing ELECTRA VIDEO CENTER.ELECTRA WOMEN’S ART CENTER is providing office, studio and public-acces space and one (now smaller and dated) part of the equipment while in this application Arkzin & ELECTRA VIDEO CENTER are asking for providing part of the technical equipment. Both groups will actively participate and cooperate in organisation of various events, festivals, exhibitions. In further work Arkzin will also provide magazine presentation and coverage of the activities of ELECTRA WOMEN’S ART CENTRE and ELECTRA VIDEO CENTRE as well as graphic design and DTP services (catalogues, posters, design of video tape covers, part of video graphic design). Arkzin will use production and postproduction equipment in colaboration with personel of ELECTRA for education and support of journalists, video authors and other artists (theatre groups, performance & visual artists, actors, bands) and production of their works. We believe that in our political situation, with strict state control of broadcast media and high prices for rent of the professional video equipment which prevent many interested people from active work in that field, such video production, screening and distribution centre would be valuable - for education of young media authors - creative expression - documentation of various events and actions - alternative way of production and distribution the news, stories, documents, artworks - social place where people could enteract, collaborate, develop new ideas and actions as well as watch other alternative production/s, receive informations and exchange them.

SANJA IVEKOVIC

Sanja Ivekovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia, where she graduated from The Academy of Fine Arts and had her first solo exhibition in 1970. Her art production has spanned a range of media such as photography, performance, video and installations. The point of departure of her work was (and has remained until today) her own person, her own life - and by putting this theme into a broader context - the situation of women in our time and society. On Croatian art scene she was the first women artist who called herself a feminist artist. She lectures at the Center for Women's Studies in Zagreb since its begining in 1994.
