Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje Multiethnic Radio Station “Radio K”
Municipality Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje extends over area of 30 km in diameter, and this Municipality is on the crossroads: Prishtina – Peja, main road Peja – Mitrovica, big railroad node Gjilane-Mitrovica between two big cities. In this municipality are living about 50000 people; this is mixed area with Albanians, Serbs, Romas, and Egyptians, i.e. multiethnic community. In the municipality of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje there does not exist any kind of local media, news or broadcaster. Based on that fact, we are concluded that citizens of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje are not informed enough and it’s necessary to have this kind of public media. Group of young intellectuals, musicians, economists and people with good will from Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje (Albanians and Serbs) come out with this idea. By reason of circumstances and place in which we are living, we are trying with this radio programme to inform, unifying and helping the people, as much as we are able to do that. Exact location of this Multiethnic Radio would be in center of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje, near Municipality Building and OSCE Building, in House of Culture. Why do you want to open Multiethnic Radio in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje? Radio programme would be without politics, independent, and all people who live in this area, are in need of this kind of media. Independence would be shown through no connection or influence of any political group or party in matter of all decision about radio program, and on the other side, we will welcome all help from all organizations located in municipality of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje and which are willing to cooperate and give any kind of help to the people in this area. This group of educated people has noticed importance of this kind of media to the community, and this community is prepared to have radio station in the municipality. We are trying to start a multiethnic radio station for the reasons below, very important and necessary, but which do not exist or don’t exist in necessary amount.
During the consideration and negotiations between Albanians and Serbs for this project, we agreed on attractive and for us the best name for the Radio, and this name is “Radio K” (Key). On the beginning it was proposed several names like: Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje, Hallo, etc. but we receded from that names because they have different pronunciation on different languages. For that reasons we were accepted together the international name for this radio, and also, everybody might pronounce this name on theirs language. This Radio would be nonpolitically determinate and substantive because this is not right and useful for this area. One more reason for this is also because we need more entertainment in our area, more information and unifying the people, than politics or resounding some political leaders.
On the basis of above, we would have obvious positive influence of radio “K” in this area. This positive influence is also obvious in enabling the efficient communication and cooperation between different ethnic groups. But, above all, we have a plan to influence on youth with educational programs on the way that we will organize discussions about sanitary and sexual education, about negative effects of narcotics, about human rights, environment, and etc. According to that, we will enable involvement of larger number of young people and that will contribute both to theirs mature and education and also to theirs entertainment. Program about art doesn’t exist in our community, we don’t have cinema, theatre, concerts and on that basis we believe our radio will improve this lack of culture events and also with radio program we will fulfill free time of young people.

About radio program we will ask also audience for their proposals and opinions and correct our program according to them.
On the Radio “K” we will use Serbian, Albanian, English and according to our guests in program, also Romas language. Serbian and Albanian language will be equally represented in all kind of programs, from information and news to the poetry and art. Program will be managed by both Albanians and Serbs and news will be from BBC and Deutche Welle on English, Serbian, Albanian and probably on Roma language.
Music on the Multiethnic Radio, according to the agreement with all people involved in this project, will include all kinds of music, from pop, rock, reggae, techno, punk, alternative, rap, African music, jazz, blues etc. to the all kind of new music’s trends from whole world. It would be all up to date and also old music’s hits. Music from this area, from both Albanian and Serb side, will not be represented.
Maybe will be some small changes in program, which would depend on popularity of program, but now this is the experimental program schedule: Monday 0800 – 1000 Morning program: Headline news, Forecast, Sport news, International and Local Scene, and the music in the background and between news. 1000 – 1200 International music. Rock and Alternative Music, with information about performers 1200 – 1300 Chat with the Guests.
