Silovo Village, Gnjilane Municipality  

Radio Max, a private station, was established on 8/8/98. It is the only private, independent radio station in the Pomoravlje region to emit a Serbian language program. With our program we are covering the municipalities of Gnjilane, Kosovska Kamenica, Novo Brdo and Urosevac; our current listenership includes 30,000 Serb listeners. From the moment of our establishment the aim of this station has been to provide timely information to local communities about the region and beyond.  In our informative shows we have used Deutsche Welle from Koln and B2-92 from Belgrade. During the first year of our work we had many problems with local officials because we wer not willing to broadcast SPS (Socialist Party of Serbia) political activities.  We have always been on the side of the people so that we can truly say that we are a radio of the people.

Currently, Radio Max has 12 employees: 7 women and 5men.

All of these people are young and ambitious, college educated and with the experience necessary to accomplish their jobs. All of our employees have been with us since the establishment of the radio.

The policy of this station is based on providing timely, current information to the local public in regard to all important events in the region and throughout the world.  In addition, we provide information to the local population regarding activities of local NGOs. We also air announcements provided by KFOR and UNMIK Police. Each Wednesday we report KFOR and UNMIK information provided at press conferences. Each Friday we inform people about all the problems in the community. Also, each Friday at 18:00 we bring a high-ranking KFOR officer into the studio to allow the public to ask KFOR questions directly.

As far as educational programs we also cover women’s issues and their place in democratic processes. The children’s program is made up of youth who prepare their own topics and discuss them on the air. As you can see the policy is such that we are trying to cover all the main topics: political issues, educations, children and women’s program.
