TV Broadcast Mozaik
Current TV programs do not have enough emissions
about major problems faced by people of Kosovo and do not offer solutions to
such problems. This is the reason why Mozaik has conducted a survey of the
current situation and needs of the people in Kosovo. Among other findings, the
survey has produced several causes of the very difficult broadcasting situation
in Kosova. It is essential that we broadcast the individual
needs of men, women, children, handicapped and the issues of adequate shelter,
ethnic conflicts, living with armed forces in every area of your life, and the
massive unemployment and the absence of an economic structure or plan. Providing
assistance to Kosovars requires that we address all issues, situations and
individuals that have been impacted by the war and the previous years of
oppressed existence. We need to pay attention to psychological, social, and
economic, health, and environmental and ethnic aspects and situations. Much has
been accomplished since the end of the conflict, but we cannot let this
overshadow the fact that there have also been significant deficiencies with
minorities’ relationships, domestic violence, prostitution, political culture,
child abuse, human rights issues, murders, kidnapping, etc.
Currently, in Kosovo there are about 200,000
inhabitants who are minorities and make up about 10 % of the Kosovo total
population. This includes Serbs, Turks, Roma, etc. Based on the survey, the minorities are in a very
bad situation as a result of the war and ethnic violence after the war. Problems
of the minorities are not broadcasted, and their issues are not known among the
population inside Kosova because they are living on the enclaves protected by
KFOR and UNMIK police. From dozens of Radio and TV broadcasting organizations in
Kosovo, in the year 2000 they broadcasted only 300 minutes of short interviews
with those people. This is very short time to know the true reality and major
problems concerning the minorities.
Teaching the opinion what is the real political
debate in view of the fact that in past was prohibited to hold political debates
in communist Ex-Yugoslavia. Mozaik has organized and plans to continue
organizing political debates in RTK (Radio Television of Kosova) concerning pre
election and post election campaigns. Mozaik has authorship rights to 60 minutes of TV
broadcasting in RTK not including other private TV stations. The Mozaik programs
include documentaries, editorials, breaking news, special programs aimed at
special audiences, etc.
The project has a general goal of transforming
society from a communist society to a democratic society, from a centralized
economy to an open market economy, from war to peace, from violence to
non-violence, as well as from isolation to open-mindedness. The above-mentioned general goal of the project
shall be achieved through the successful implementation of the following preset
TV broadcasting objectives:
Spreading these productions will be very effective
in transforming the Kosovar society into a Democratic society comparable to
Europe and US. The political process and the new laws made by UN interim
administration in Kosovo are in the process of transforming Kosovo into a Labor
Market Economy and a private society. Mosaic contributes to resolve these
problems by helping the UNMIK administration and KFOR to teach the people
through broadcasting for democratic society and how they transform their lives
into real democratic state within the real democratic values. Specification of the measurable effects for the
successful fulfillment of the above-mentioned goals and objectives would have to
be measured through the TV ratings of our shows as well as through the direct
responses from phone calls and emails as well as market surveys. All of these
aspects of measures shall be reported accordingly.
It is anticipated that during 2001, Mozaik assists
in facilitating the correlation between the ethnic Albanians, ethnic Serbs,
Roma, Turks and other minorities. Mozaik’s programs will be efficient by
broadcasting programs that will help those specific issues. The clashes between
the ethnic groups in Kosovo are very high. It the liability of KFOR and UNMIK to
neutralize this process that has began in 1990, with the Serbian oppression in
Kosovo. However, without media support of editorials, documentaries, report,
cultural programs, and open debates etc. KFOR and UNMIK will not be able to
achieve much. This means that the successful implementation of our project could
also be measured by the effects in the tolerance levels between ethnic groups,
opportunities for women and minorities, security for children, better education,
health and social structures, more business opportunities, etc.
Regarding the issues of domestic violence,
prostitution, rapes, child abuse and neglect, Mozaik will provide coverage about
specific numbers of women, children, with major emphasis on the ones that have
had or currently face one or more of the above mentioned problems. Mozaik will
organize live programs on the local TVs with specialists, (both international
and local) as well as psychologists, psychotherapists and counselors who will
offer solutions, help and assistance to direct beneficiaries of these programs.
The viewers will have access live through telephone to ask exacts questions
about those issues that bother them.
Environment is one of the biggest problems in
Kosovo currently. More particular programs with specific components which have a
direct influence on teaching random people not to be involved in cutting the
trees, destroying the national parks, misusing of garbage disposals, while
encouraging them to support a hygienic culture, manage waste from industrial
factories, preserve the rivers and other issues. These environmental aspects
opening the path to modernization of Kosovo in accordance with EU standards and
environmental laws will be reflected directly in the coverage of the
“Mosaic” environmental programs. These programs are aimed at offering
solutions to the problems of environment in Kosovo.
The non-governmental organization “Mosaic”
began its activities on the 1st of June 2000. During its three-months period it
succeeded in implementing many programs of various genres, contributing to the
establishment of the Radio Television of Kosova, as well as assist in the
establishment of the relationships between Kosovo minorities. “Mozaik” is
the only broadcasting organization in Kosovo that has the needed experience and
expertise in offering very high quality campaign against prostitution, child
abuse, domestic violence, etc while encouraging minority relations between
different ethnic groups. It is an NGO, registered in the Court of Prishtina
(Kosovo) and UNMIK registration office. It has a very rich working experience
given that it is the only provider of such quality services in Kosovo. Mozaik
has 5 full time employees of whom 3 are women, and several other temporary staff
who work as volunteers or on honorary basis. The NGO is managed by Milaim Zeka,
an editor as well as the main director of the NGO. He is an experienced media
editor having worked for many years in the media related organizations as well
as having finished university studies. |
