During 1998, Medienhilfe Ex-Jugoslawien had contcts and co-operation with the following four independent media in Kosov@:
On the very first day of the NATO airstrikes, the premises of Koha, Media Project Pristina and Zeri were demolished and robbed by Serbian paramilitary groups. The Kohas night guard was killed. Fearing consequences of severe revenge, Radio Kontakt seized its broadcasting itself a few days before. Editors, journalists and tehnical staff of these media were forced to go into underground in order to save their lives. Some are still hiding somewhere in Kosov@. Some were vicitms of the terror perpetrated by Milosevics military and paramilitary maschinery. Fortunately, most of them managed to escape out of Kosov@ and are at present refugees in Macedonia. They have had enough strength to collect energy, organise themselves and re-start tehir work from the exile. Hundreds of thousands of Kosov@ Albanian refugees are withouth any doubts in a desparate need for recieving urgent humanitarian aid, so vital for their survival. But, beside being without food, clothes, shelters, medical service... many of them are also terrified, confused, feeling as being lost and cut off their roots. Most important, many of them are very uncertain about their future. It is extemely important to keep these people informed about what is happening. Independent media whome they, because of their professional reporting, have been following for years before and whome they trust and that is exactly our partners can the best provide these people with reliable information. We urgently call for your suppport to get independent journalism started again. YOUR SPPPORT FOR MEDIA IN EXILE:
