Roma Radio "Cherenja"
is a voice of the Roma people from Stip. This Radio is the first one in
Macedonia, and maybe within the Balkans, which spreads through the ether the
voice of one civilization, one nation that has been held back through years, a
nation which is scattered throughout the world. Roma Radio "Cherenja“ was established on 8 November 1994 in Stip. This radio, with very small financial support, provides great educative and all-inclusive contributions for civilization to its listeners every day. . It has become a daily need for the Roma people in Stip and the vicinity. Like other private radio and TV stations, Radio "Cherenja" depends of the marketing profit. However, Radio "Cherenja" directly suffers in this regard for various reasons. One of them is a general prejudice about Roma people among other nations and financial infirmity of the Roma people to support this radio with commercials, because 90% of the Roma people are dependent on social support. Nevertheless, to accomplish our planned program we need to pay our staff that will engage in the realization of our ambitious goals. Roma Radio "Cherenja"
is planning the following programs for this year:
We have a morning, an afternoon
and evening program. We plan this program to help in the education of the Roma
children, to respond to the need of Roma children for common communication
through free expression of their thoughts, as well as to create possibilities
for the development of Roma children talents. The morning program "In the
world of fairytales" would be aired daily as a 30-minute program. The
afternoon program "Let's get the information from the children", is an
open one-and-a-half-hour program that would be broadcasted twice a week. The
evening program "Good night" is a 30-minute program, broadcasted every
night. The broadcasting of the
children's program would be both in Macedonian and Roma language.
The young people’s program would be divided into
debate, contact and entertaining programs. Their purpose is to create conditions
through the radio, for this most sensitive segment of the Roma population, to
debate openly and freely about everyday-problems that they deal with. The
debates would be organized on specific themes. The debate programs would be
aired twice a week, one hour each. The contact program called
"To meet each other by telephone" is also planned to be broadcasted
twice a week, one hour each. The aim of this program is to get young people to
meet and to know each other, to feel close and to communicate. The entertaining program for
young people entitled "Turli radio" would be aired one hour once a
week. The aim of this program is to create the setting for kind competition
between young Roma people through fun, games and quiz. The entire program for young
people would be in Roma language.
The aim of this program is
all-inclusive emancipation of the Roma woman, to actualize the problems that she
is dealing with, and to offer opportunities for the capabilities of woman to
freely express her thoughts. The broadcasting would be one hour every week. The
woman's program would be broadcasted in Roma language.
This program would include
several themes from various topics such as health, justice, economy, ecology,
politics, etc. There would be broadcasting programs every working day except
Monday, because every Monday is reserved for a program for studying Roma
language. The aim of this Monday-program is to cherish the Roma language because
its basic form has been seriously endangered by the influence of other languages.
The broadcasting would be in Macedonian and Roma language, except the programs
for studying the Roma language, which would be broadcasted only in Roma language.
The aim of these programs is to get to the heart of common problems that the Roma population foremost deals with. The broadcasting of these programs would last one hour and 45 minutes once a week in Roma, Macedonian and Turkish language.
The aim of these programs is the
cultural education of the Roma people; actually this radio program would
introduce them to the spheres of literature, painting, music, film, theatre,
etc. The broadcasting would be one hour once a week, in Macedonian language.
This program would include
sports events from our town Stip and vicinity. The broadcasting would be one
hour per week in Roma language.
This program would include news and events from politics, economy, social and public problems as well as daily events in culture and sports. We are planning to broadcast daily news for 30 minutes per day. The news brief would last 5 minutes each twice a day. The news broadcast would be in Roma language. The following is the whole weekly radio program
arranged by time.
