Weekly MONITORPolitical weekly Monitor appeared in autumn 1990 and was the first independent media in Montenegro. The weekly is a part of the media house Montenegropublic, which also consists of Radio Antena M, at present the only independent radio station in Montenegro. This summer, the Hronika (Chronicle) will appear as the first independent political daily in this republic. Besides, Monitor started publishing activities last year. Since the beginning, the paper's editorial policy has being aimed to struggle against war mongering and nationalist euphoria, and to support and spread values of free democratic society. Montenegropublic is a media house in a strong expansion at the moment. It is to get frequencies for two more radio stations in two different cities in Montenegro. Weekly Monitor and the new daily Hronika are preparing the establishment of a joint correspondent office in Belgrade. The plans for founding of the own distribution department are on the way as well. Finally, the own print shop will start operating this summer. All these big investments are mostly covered by long-term out-of-rent loans provided from the Soros Co-ordination Office in Prague. Still. the finances for running costs and smaller development projects are just partly provided by house itself, and other donations are needed.
