TV PRODUCTION “FROLI” NIS
“FROLI” Nis Production has
existed for four years now, exactly 43 months.
Primary aims of “FROLI” Nis Production are to
contribute to the affirmation of the culture of Roma, rise a education level of
Roma, to struggle against racial and ethnic barriers towards Roma, as well as
integration of Roma through their stronger presence public life, culture, and
political activity on community level. Mission of “FROLI” Nis Production is
to offer Roma population information programming as well as to inform other
population about Roma problems in order to struggle against a negative process
of segregation and assimilation which are growing in last ten years and resulted
in impoverishment of Roma, had negative consequences for Roma’s language and
identity of Roma culture. “FROLI” Nis Production is devoted to promotion of
mutual tolerance among different ethnic groups, which has been reduced to a very
low level for the last ten years. We are convinced that we can contribute with
our production to stop or slow-down processes of further degradation of Roma’s
language, culture and identity.
Until 31.12.2000 “FROLI” Nis
Production produced 70 broadcasts of 60 minutes each and all of them were
broadcast on NTV (Nis municipal TV station ). All material is saved on VHS and
S-VHS tapes.
Name of our broadcast in Roma
language is “AKAJ RAT SI ROMANI“ (“This is Roma Night”), it is on the
NTV’s program every Sunday from 11.00 to 12.00 a.m. and is repeated every
second week.
The structure of the broadcast is as follows:

Every block of the broadcast
begins with music visual jingle. Items are in relation to local region, but we
also have some from all of Serbia and sometimes from other countries, which
mostly depends on our financial situation. At the beginning our broadcasts were
subtitled in Serbian language, but we had to quit doing so as we do not have
equipment for that.
Our future plane is to broaden
influence of our broadcast. NTV covers aria of 50-100 km in radius, which has a
population of around 1 million, out of which around 50.000 are Roma.
