"JEHONA"
MAGAZINE FOR INFORMATION, POLITICS AND CULTUREBUJANOC, PRESHEVA AND MEDVEGJA
Currently in the region of these
municipalities which lie in the south of the Republic of Serbia (Bujanoc with
53.000 inhabitants, Presheva with 46.000 and Medvegja with 13.000 inhabitants)
Except "Jehona" magazine, does not exist any other newspaper, radio or
magazine in the Albanian language. Even though the Albanians make up the
majority of the total population. The present media in Serbian are completely
closed for Albanians. One cannot find a single article in Albanian, although the
Albanians are regular taxpayers of this state. Having in mind all these facts,
one can come to a conclusion that the Albanians of these municipalities are
totally under an information blockade. Even after the changes has been
made in Yugoslavia, we do not see any changeable direction towards these regions
( Presheva, Bujanovac and Medvegja ). Since 24 March 1999 the Albanian press
from Kosova is not allowed to come in these municipalities, because of the
check-points boarding between Kosova and Serbia. So this magazine is the only
mean for about 100.000 inhabitants that live in this region. "Jehona" is an
independent magazine, without political colours, with an informative character
and deals with political, social and cultural matters, and it has an independent
editorial policy. The magazine's topics give a considerable contribution to the
communication and acquaintance between people of different nationalities. They
also bring a realistic spirit in the solving of the current problems of this
area. "Jehona" has a critical attitude toward the government and all
other political parties that act in these municipalities and further. Since we are the only Albanian
information media in this region, we want to inform the population with our
bi-weekly magazine.
The founder of the cultural,
political and informative magazine "Jehona", is the artistic and
cultural association (ACA) "JEHONA" in Tërnoc, the municipal of
Bujanoc. It started as a leaflet in June 1980, and then continued as a magazine,
after it was registered at the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Serbia
(decision no. 632-03/'92 of 23 March 1992). During-1992 - 1997 with donors help,
"Jehona" was published. Also it was printed with the money that was
collected from advertisements and sale of magazine. During these years of
publication, the magazine was interrupted due to the repression that was
exercised by the state organs towards the conductors of the magazine. They were
taken into informative talks. They were threatened by pressing penal charges for
its chief editor. State organs against the magazine, made permanent pressures by
confiscating some copies, especially those copies that were published in Shkupi
(Skopje) because they were published very cheaply. At the moment "Jehona"
has again started to be printed in these areas, but with the shortage of
material means.
