Description of the project
In the preceding period The
Radio Television Kragujevac has produced the above-mentioned project in Roma
language, with the support of Medienhilfe and Swedish Helsinki Committee. To our
knowledge, broadcasting of daily news in Roma language /from contacts with Roma
NG organizations from Kragujevac/ are welcomed by the Roma population, and our
fellow-citizens, too, are of the opinion that it has enriched the program of RTV
Kragujevac.
Also, the program “Tonight
about…” in witch the guests were: Jadranka Stojanovic, coordinator for Roma
questions in The Fond for Open Society-Belgrade, Dr. Alexandra Mitrovic,
vice-president of The Society for Advancement of Roma Habitations and Slavoljub
Georgevic, director of NGO “Roma Informative Center” –caused positive
reactions, as it opened many questions of Roma life.
We think that the project of Daily news in Roma language
should be continued in the forthcoming period as well, for the reason that is
necessary that the Roma population should be well informed, in the sense of
their affirmation, or further democratization of the society, as well as of the
development of the democracy in Serbia and in Yugoslavia. We also think that the
formed team of young collaborators /there are three of them/ might become the
kernel of possible editorial staff for programs in Rom language RTV Kragujevac.
Of course, that would require securing their education. In another program
“Tonight about…” the debate on the problems of Roms in our society would
be continued. In addition to Rom representatives, included in this program would
now be a representative of Ministry for National Minorities, and a
representative of Municipal Assembly of Kragujevac.

PROJECT: "ZASTAVA-YESTERDAY, TODAY,
TOMORROW"
ZASTAVA, one of the largest
industrial giants in Kragujevac and in Balkans, has been in the biggest crisis
since its foundation in 1853.At this moment, when there are major political
changes in Serbia and when Serbia awaits the definitive and unavoidable entrance
into transition, "Zastava" faces many problems and temptations.
Further development of the whole Serbian industry depends on destitution of
these problems. The life and the existence of hundreds of thousand workers from
Kragujevac and Serbia depend on "Zastava" and its survival.
Serial would consist of six half
an hour episodes. Main topic would be a history of "Zastava", the
oldest factory on Balkans, its development that includes the organization of the
assembly-line production of its own cars. I would particularly mention the car
export to America (YUGO model), as one of the biggest business arrangements.
Later on, the beginning of the managing-production crisis from all aspects
(material collapse, technological fall behind, a lack of experts, unemployment...).
A particular review on workers` protests in 1996 would be given, although as the
biggest demonstrations in Serbia and Yugoslavia after the Second World War. Many
analysts consider the demonstrations of Zastava` workers (workers from Zastava
weapon industry), so-called "weaponers", as a beginning of changes in
Serbia and crashing the Slobodan Milosevic` regime. The NATO bombing of Zastava
in 1999 would be also included in the serial, altogether with consequences of
bombing. The ecological aspect would have the special place because of spilling
a toxic liquid (pyralen) in Zastava Car Factory. Therefore Kragujevac is one of
the most endangered region in Serbia. There would be an episode in this serial
about the present social moment in Kragujevac and its surroundings, since the
ten-year business agony of Zastava has left many workers without their job.
Because of that agony thousands of workers and their families live in poverty
and misery. The end of a serial would be dedicated to the perspectives and to
the future of this factory. We would use documentary material for the serial and
the guests would be: Prvoslav Rakovic, the first general manager after the war;
Rodoljub Micic, general manager in the in the time of YUGO-AMERICA project and
in the time of beginning of the crisis in the nineties (or someone from his
leading team): Miodrag Savicevic, president of an Administrative Board and Zoran
Radojevic, general manager; Dr Zoran Djindjic, Serbian Prime Minister (or the
Minister of Industry); M.Eric, Z.Prokic, S.Stankovic and the members of the
present and bygone administrative set (a question of continuity), Misa Brkic,
journalist-economic analyst.
AUTHOR: Zoran Radovanovic, has
been a journalist for the "Danas" newspaper for years. He has been a
professional journalist for 20 years. He worked for Belgrade newspaper "Vecernje
Novosti ", "Borba", "Nasa Borba', and since 1998 he has
worked for "Danas". He cooperated with many daily and weekly
newspapers in Yugoslavia, including NIN and "Vreme". He has been an
employee in Zastava`s informative service for several years. He has been an
associate for electronic media in Kragujevac.
